8. 501 MAICO
This was the first of the superbikes ever released to the public. When it first came out in 1973, it felt much like a 400 Maico, but with a little bit of tuning you could turn it into a real monster. It was still a very light bike, weighing only a few pounds more than a 400. But it also went straight, turned like magic and was very forgiving especially for high speeds over sand whoops. It was also very reliable; it was not unheard of for riders to get a whole year out of a set of rings.
