Think of the most epic motocross or supercross battle you’ve ever seen—the titanic clash between Team Honda teammates Ricky Johnson and David Bailey at the 1986 Anaheim Supercross might immediately come to mind.
Then there are the unforgettable motocross rivalries. Hannah vs. Howerton. Ward vs. Johnson. Ward vs. O’Mara. Ward vs. (insert the name of any other factory rider here). Carmichael vs. Stewart. Windham vs. Vuillemin. Dungey vs. Roczen.
Close competition breeds these rivalries every bit as much as clashing personalities, and sometimes when the racing gets really tight, tempers can flare and someone usually ends up stuffed over a berm or deposited in the whoops. It’s part of what makes the sport so awesome in the first place.
But we can’t remember that last time we’ve seen as intense an on-track scrap is the one seen in the video above. Put together by FK Films, it is a practical snapshot that illustrates the struggle of the gladiators in the motocross, supercross and arenacross venues that hold races across the U.S., an unforgettable battle of man and machine that takes “block-passing” to an all-new level. These riders go head to head, wheel to wheel in a thrilling race that features multiple passes per lap!
Yet through it all, both riders appear to be having a great time—you just can’t seem to wipe the smiles off their faces. That is, until the climactic finish, which illustrates just how these rivalries often begin in the first place.
Seriously, this little flick captures the true spirit of motocross. Check it out.
