Yamalube Star Racing Yamaha’s Cooper Webb realized the dream of winning his first professional AMA title when he scored a decisive win in the AMA 250cc West Supercross main event at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, last weekend, and the win was a milestone for both Webb and the Blu Cru.

The win also marked Yamaha’s first 250cc AMA Supercross title with its latest generation YZ250F, which was introduced just prior to the 2014 season and carried Yamalube Star Racing Yamaha rider Jeremy Martin to the Lucas Oil 250cc Pro Motocross Championship in its inaugural outdoor season.

Webb’s Houston win marked his fifth victory in seven rounds of racing, allowing him to sew up the 250cc West title one round early. Webb came into the Houston race with a healthy 30-point advantage in the 250cc West point standings, and he had less to worry about after arch rival Tyler Bowers was forced to pull out of the main event at about half distance. Webb ran second to Shane McElrath before passing the KTM rider and going on to win the race by 2.5 seconds.

“This is unreal,” Webb said afterward. “I dedicated my whole life for this moment right here, and it paid off. I was a 4-year-old chasing a dream, and it came true. I knew I belonged up here, so I never quit. I kept fighting, and here we are.”

Webb’s only non-podium finish in the series thus far was a seventh at the opening race of the year at the Angel Stadium in Anaheim. After that he went on a tear, racking up wins at Phoenix, Anaheim II, Anaheim III and San Diego. Oakland was the only other round where Webb didn’t win; he finished second.

The Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series continues this weekend at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California before heading back east to New Jersey and then rebounding back across the country for the series finale at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas.
